The Supreme Court of India has extended the application window for 15 tentative Court Master (Shorthand) posts on deputation. Eligible serving court employees can now submit their applications until 15 November 2026. High Courts have a separate extended deadline of 20 November 2026 for forwarding applications to the Supreme Court Registry.

This is an extension of the advertisement issued on 12 October 2026, not a fresh recruitment for applicants outside the eligible court-service cadres.

Eligibility

Eligibility and Qualifications

The applicant must already be serving in a High Court or District Court and meet the original service and skills requirements. The advertisement specifies:

  • A degree from a recognised university in India.
  • English shorthand speed of 120 words per minute.
  • Knowledge of computer operation, including typing at 40 words per minute.
  • Holding an analogous post on a regular basis or at least five years of regular service as Private Secretary, Senior Personal Assistant, Personal Assistant or Senior Stenographer.

The original advertisement fixes the qualification and service-eligibility reference date at 1 October 2026. The age ceiling is 56 years as on the closing date for receipt of applications; applicants should assess the revised closing date and any applicable service instructions. Eligibility is subject to verification by the forwarding authority and the Registry.

Selection process

Selection Process

Applications are scrutinised before eligible candidates are called for an English shorthand skill test at 120 words per minute. The test carries 100 marks; 50 marks are required to qualify, with a permissible mistake rate of five per cent under the original notice. Qualifying candidates then attend an interaction.

For those reaching the interaction stage, the Registry requires the last five years' annual confidential/performance appraisal reports and vigilance clearance. Candidates should confirm these are arranged through their department rather than trying to substitute personal copies for official records.

Application instructions

How to Apply Through the Proper Channel

Use the prescribed form attached to the original advertisement, enter complete qualifications and chronological service history, and attach a recent photograph and the required supporting records. The employer must be able to spare the officer if selected. Incomplete, unsigned or improperly routed applications can be rejected.

The forwarding authority should send the application, five years' appraisal reports and vigilance clearance to Recruitment Cell, Supreme Court of India, Tilak Marg, New Delhi 110001. Scanned copies may be emailed to recruitment.cell@sci.nic.in for early scrutiny; the original prescribed documents must subsequently reach the Registry by post as directed.
